A quieter way of seeing

01

I am a fine art photographer based in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

My work moves between coast, mist, isolated structures, architecture and the quieter spaces in between. The subject may change, but the search remains remarkably consistent.

I am drawn to scenes where time, weather and space can transform something familiar into something less literal. Long exposure, negative space and restrained composition allow me to remove distraction and give the subject room to breathe.

I am not interested in reducing a scene simply for the sake of minimalism. The reduction has to reveal something — atmosphere, isolation, rhythm, form or a sense of stillness that may otherwise have been lost within the original view.

Approach

I am less interested
in recording everything
that was there than in
deciding what can
be left out.

Whether standing at a coastline, surrounded by fog or looking upward through architecture, I am usually searching for the same thing — simplicity, space and a quieter interpretation of what is in front of me.

Looking.
Sharing.
Learning.

Photography is often a solitary pursuit, but some of the most valuable parts of it happen through conversation and shared experience.

Within CB Camera Club I am an Advanced worker, often helping to mentor other members. Spending time alongside other photographers, discussing images and helping someone develop their own way of seeing is an important part of my photographic life.

That exchange works both ways. Every location, conversation and photograph remains an opportunity to learn something new.
